Hi, I’m Virginia
I design websites for financial advisors, planners and other financial professionals
Not a financial firm?
I build sites for many types of businesses. Some of my financial advisor clients refer me to their friends or family members who own other types of businesses. See some examples.
Frequently Asked Questions
1. How do I get started?
Call or send an email to Virginia to schedule a time to talk about your website project.
2. Who will I work with on my website project?
You will always and only be speaking with Virginia, who is managing your project. You’ll never get a call center or an assistant.
3. What will a custom financial website cost?
Most independent financial advisors (1-2-person offices) spend about $1500 on their custom website project. You’ll receive a detailed estimate for your project. If you make a special design request during our work together that may add costs, you will be asked to approve any additional costs.
4. How long will the website design process take?
Most projects are completed and live within 3–4 weeks. As soon as I receive your deposit payment, we will begin working on your project. We’ll meet for a “design interview” to collect the information I need from you in order to present you with a website design concept that fits your needs. In most cases, I will show you a website design within 5-7 business days of our design interview meeting. I will then incorporate your feedback, make the necessary design changes, and start to insert your page content on the website.
5. Who owns my website?
Your website is an important asset to your business; you own it. You won’t be required to pay us any monthly fees to keep your website live on the internet.
When you purchase one of our website services, you are hiring me to do the heavy lifting for you. I’ll take your information and propose a design along with a strong marketing message. If you would like help, I can help you with the registration of your website domain name.
I will provide you with the account information you need to assure you that you have ownership and control over your website’s domain name and files. You have perpetual use of your website and copyright use of the photographic images that are incorporated into your website design.
There are no subscription or licensing fees. Due to our licensing agreements with providers, you may not resell your website or use images that we provide on your print marketing materials without permission, or buy print licensing from the stock photo agency.
6. Are there ongoing monthly costs for my website?
You will have hosting fees for your website. Hosting is provided by a service that maintains the files for your website and makes your site visible to the public worldwide. I will help you setup your account online, and you own and control that account, paying for your hosting service directly to your hosting service. Typical hosting costs are between $10-$36 per month depending on the level of service you select.
7. Can I add pages and other content to my website?
Yes. Your website includes the WordPress backend “content management system,” which allows you to login to your website from any internet browser and edit/add pages, photos, etc. You can grow your website to add as many pages and blog posts as you like. You will have access to video tutorials to get you started. My clients find editing their website page content very easy.
If you prefer, you can hire me to make changes to your website. The rate to make future design and content changes on your website is $75/hour, pro-rated to the quarter hour if over one hour. The minimum billable time for changes on your website is $75. However, if you require a quick fix on your site and it takes me less than ten minutes, there is no charge to you for my time. I will always answer your questions when you send me an email.
8. How much work will be required of me?
When you hire a website designer, they should be doing the design work (not you, the financial advisor). I search for and buy copyright-protected images for your website. I do the design work for you and present you with a design concept (an actual website that includes graphics) within a week of our “design interview.” We meet to review and integrate your feedback on the design, and we then insert any custom page copy/content that you have.
Be sure you ask this question of any template service. I’ve heard from clients that they had to do all the design concept thinking and tell their designer very specifically how to design their site. Some template services ask you to choose a specific design, and then they change the colors and add your page copy to that template design.
Or worse, some clients tell me once that once they had their template system/site built, the firm would then charge them a very high price to make simple changes after it was live.
9. What is the technology you use?
Your website will be built on the WordPress application, an open-source “content management system” and non-proprietary software application. WordPress is very popular due to it’s being very user-friendly (and Google-friendly).. WordPress gives you the ability to manage your website on your own, with easy editing ability from any internet browser, and I post video tutorials online for your learning.
10. Will I have the ability to “SEO” my website?
Yes, you will have the ability to hire me, or hire another SEO (Search Engine Optimization) specialist, to work on your website. The best SEO you can do is write new content for your website in the form of blog posts or add new pages.
11. Is there any SEO included?
Search engine optimization (SEO) encompasses the tasks of improving your website so that it will rank higher on a search engine results page in order for you to get more traffic to your website. You will have an SEO-friendly site with WordPress; your website includes a ‘blog’ (add articles & news), and you can easily customize each of your pages with SEO features included to allow you to add unique “page titles” and “meta descriptions” for each page or blog post. I install Google Analytics on your site when your website goes live.
12. How do I buy a website domain name?
If you do not yet own your “domain name” (dotcom or dotnet), you can go to this link to search for a name and “register” it in your name/ownership (typical cost: $22/annual): https://catch8.com/
